A master's job is
never done, it lives on through the ages.
The annual Installation of Officers was held on December 16, 1989 and the newly installed Master gave a short talk on what Masonry meant to him and also he gave an idea of his hopes and aspirations for the coming year. After the ceremonies a fine buffet style meal was enjoyed at the Twin Gables Hall and visiting and dancing followed the dinner.
In February it was decided by motion and vote to allow the Senior Warden, Bro. Ralph T. Enloe Jr., to attend the upcoming Senior Warden's retreat at the expense of the Lodge. The Warden's retreats are still used today by the Grand Lodge of California and are an excellent way to ensure that the Warden's are fully prepared for their years as Master of their Lodge. The Past Master's Association of Clovis Lodge disbanded after slow attendance and their funds were deposited into the general fund of Clovis Lodge.
In March a committee was formed to study the feasibility of raising the annual dues to $50.00, it was decided that they would study the effects and report at a later meeting.
In May Bro. Weldon Martin "Jake" Sherrod was willing to accept the interim job as Secretary owing to the death of Bro. Richard B. Guttridge PM of Clovis Lodge. Brother Guttridge was a retired teacher and Past Master of 2 Masonic Lodges including Clovis Lodge. Kind words spoken were, "Bro. Richard will be missed by all who knew him and who had worked so closely with him."
In July we had painters working inside the building and the Lodge room was going through a spring cleaning. We also got new carpet in this year thanks to a personal donation of the Master, Bro. Dan Pearce. It was also reported that poles and chains had been put across the driveways and that they were going to be removed. It seems that not everyone was on the same page about these poles....I know the feeling. hehehe
In August it was carried by motion and vote to raise the annual dues to $40.00. Then they voted on the original motion which was to raise the dues. It also carried. It was announced on this evening that the Hiram Award Dinner for Bro. Ray Pryor was going to be held in November.
It was announced that Bro. Ralph T. Enloe Jr., Senior Warden of Clovis Lodge, had fallen at Grand Lodge and that he was transferred to Saint Agnes Hospital and was recuperating from a broken hip.
In December, Bro. Robert Bretz, Past Master of Clovis Lodge, passed away after a long illness. Bro. Bretz had been a long time member of Clovis Lodge and was very active until the time of his illness and for many years offered the use of his property for the annual Lodge picnic in Shaver Lake.
The last meeting of the year which was held in December was a bit different than most. There was to be no reading of the minutes, no communications and no bills as the Secretary had forgotten his briefcase when he left home to come to Lodge. It was however the annual election of officers and a new officers were elected.
The minutes of this year were kind of hard to follow as the result of the loss of the Secretary and having two other men fill in for the remainder of the year.
The Brethren lost in this year were Bro's. J. Foster Hamilton, William Lester Chrismer, Auberry Doyle Majors, Richard B. Guttridge PM of Clovis Lodge, Paul Homer Brink, Martin "Dutch" Van Wyhe, Forrest Ray Grounds, Burton Bates Harritt, Robert Wifred Bretz PM of Clovis Lodge, Harold Lee Myers, William Richard Pearce, Conrad Schilling Jr. and Dan Vukson.
